How to Make Cannabis-Infused Sugar

How do you make cannabis-infused sugar?

If you’re partial to edibles of a sweeter variety, it’s high time you start making your own cannabis-infused sugar. Not to be confused with the THC concentrate “sugar,” which is not edible, this recipe helps you turn regular white sugar into an edible baking staple using just two ingredients: sugar (duh) and cannabis tincture. While the process takes a few days, it doesn’t require any heat or appliances. Just patience while the alcohol evaporates and the cannabinoids left behind bind to the sugar crystals.

If you have never used a cannabis tincture, check out our post about them here. You can also buy tincture from Emjay. Whichever tincture you use, it must contain alcohol. The final product can be used in any recipe that requires sugar. You can even mix in some dried herbs like lavender or mint leaves, if you’re feeling gourmet.

Cannabis-infused sugar recipe

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of white sugar
  • 1 cup of cannabis tincture

Utensils:

  • A large glass baking dish
  • Cheesecloth
  • A spatula or spoon

Once you’ve got everything ready, just follow these steps:

Put the sugar in the baking dish. Pour the tincture over the sugar. Spread the mixture evenly, from corner to corner. It should look like wet sand.

Find a dry, safe spot where the dish can sit for 2-3 days. Somewhere where roommates and/or children won’t disturb it. Cover with the cheesecloth to keep anything from falling into the mixture. Give the sugar mix a stir every now and then, to make sure all the alcohol is drying off.

Once all the alcohol has evaporated (again, it will take 48-72 hours) the mixture will resemble dry sugar again, but now it will be a yellow-greenish color. The color of the sugar doesn’t have anything to do with potency, and more to do with what the original color of the weed you used was. Store your cannabis-infused sugar in an airtight jar.

Ready to go

And that’s all there is to it! You now have a versatile and easy to store edible. You can use the cannabis infused sugar with cannabutter (check out our cannabutter recipe here) to make double strength brownies, or mix it into tea or coffee, or take a spoonful to help your medicine go down.
