Can THC Vape Carts Go Bad?

Can THC Vape Cartridges Go Bad?

Do you ever wonder what happens to your THC vape cart after it’s been sitting in the back of your drawer untouched for weeks? Or when the substance in your cartridge is looking a bit dense? Well, let us answer the burning question once and for all – can  cannabis vape cartridges go bad? Short answer, yes. Long answer, also yes–but there’s more to it.

What is a Vape Cart

A THC vape cartridge is a small, cylindrical container filled with THC oil that’s attached to battery-powered vaporizer pen. The pen then heats the oil, allowing you to inhale the vapor. It’s a go-to method of consuming cannabis because it’s discreet and pretty convenient. Plus, you can easily control the dosage, and the effects tend to kick in quicker than with your typical edible or joint. If you’re looking for a convenient and easy way to consume cannabis, a weed vape cart might just be your new go-to.

How and Why THC Vape Cartridges Go Bad

While THC vape carts are as potent as they are versatile, they aren’t immune to going bad. They still have their fair share of problems, but there are reasons why some of them go bad.

Time

It’s a bummer, but THC oil can lose its potency and break down over time, leading to a less enjoyable experience. The degradation of the THC oil is a natural process that occurs over time as it’s exposed to oxygen, light, and heat. The terpenes in the oil also begin to evaporate, changing the taste and smell of the oil. As a result, you may experience a weaker high, and the cartridge may not be as effective as it once was. Lesson learned: always check the expiration date on the cartridge before using it.

Heat

Heat is another culprit that can wreak havoc on your cartridge, causing a chemical breakdown. Heat can cause the oil to vaporize and expand, resulting in leakage or even experiencing a burnt taste in your mouth. Additionally, the THC oil may actually change chemically, producing harmful compounds that can be dangerous to inhale. So it’s best to store THC cartridges in a cool, dry place and avoid exposure to high temperatures when possible.

Improper Storage

Lastly, improper storage can also do some serious damage. Storing cartridges in direct sunlight or cold temperatures can cause damage to the cartridge’s structure and degrade the actual THC oil inside. Exposure to sunlight can break down the THC oil’s chemical composition, while storing them in freezing temperatures can cause the oil to become thick, making it difficult to use. Again – cool, dry place. No direct sunlight. No freezing temperatures.

Warning Signs That Your THC Vape Cartridge Has Gone Bad

It’s important to keep an eye out for any signs that your cartridge may have gone bad. One of the most obvious warning signs is a change in color or consistency. If your cartridge has started to turn a darker color or has become thicker or dense, it may be time to toss it. Another telltale sign is a strange taste or odor. If your cartridge tastes or smells off, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and get rid of it. If you’re experiencing any adverse side effects like coughing, nausea, or headaches, it’s a good idea to stop using it immediately. Keeping an eye out for these warning signs can help ensure you enjoy your THC cartridges safely. We want you high and safe.

While it’s possible that THC cartridges can go bad, and you may not be able to tell in the moment, there are steps you can take to help make sure your cartridge lasts as long as possible. Don’t leave your cartridge in direct sunlight; try not to let extreme temperatures or climates affect it either. When the time comes for a refill, go ahead and inspect your oil for any signs of spoilage, like changes in texture or color. If stored correctly and no signs of spoilage are present, then your cartridge should be ready to rock. As always, if something looks off or doesn’t feel right with your cartridge, don’t hesitate to try another product instead. Happy vaping.
